Practice Times & Practice Rules
Hello Woodfield families -- we're here. We made it. We had our first meet-and-greet up at the pool this morning, and there are a lot of excited kids ... and parents even more excited at getting the kids out of the house. Practice begins next Monday, June 22, and we have some new guidelines for you. Please read all of these closely and work with your kids to help them understand what they'll be doing. (Parents of young kids, email me separately with questions.)
Practice Guidelines For Woodfield Swim Team
These guidelines were prepared in accordance with CDC and USA Swimming recommendations. These are in addition to all Woodfield Pool guidelines. (Meet info is still very much to be determined by the Atlanta Swim Association.)
Swim practice is scheduled from 8-11. As we have about 45 swimmers on the team, this should work just fine with state guidelines on how many people (swimmers, coaches, etc.) can be on the pool deck at once.
Practice Times, by age:
8-8:45 am: 6 & under, 7-8
9-9:45 am: 9-10
10-11: 11-up
IMPORTANT: Swimmers must ENTER at the UPPER gate and EXIT through the LOWER gate.
Other guidelines:
1. Swimmers must enter the pool area ready to swim. No changing in the bathrooms.
2. No parents will be allowed on the pool deck; swimmers must be dropped off at the upper gate. A coach will be present at the gates to help maintain social distancing when entering and leaving.
3. Every swimmer will be asked when they come in how they are feeling, and if they are exhibiting any symptoms, they will not be permitted to swim.
4. We will provide hand sanitizer and will encourage all swimmers to use it as they enter and leave the pool area for the day.
5. Any swimmer or coach who begins to cough or sneeze must move away from other swimmers until coughing has subsided.
6. We have approximately 45 swimmers that will be spread out over three time slots, allowing us to maintain social distancing both in the pool and on the pool deck. We will tape down Xs for the swimmers to stand on while they wait to enter the pool.
7. Swimmers will be spread out over multiple lanes, with staggered starts, and no gathering in the shallow end of the pool is permitted.
8. Bathroom use is STRONGLY discouraged. Go before you come to the pool.
9. No high fives, no physical contact among swimmers.
10. Coaches will not be permitted to be in the water with younger swimmers this year. Only immediate family members will be able to hold onto the little ones.
11. Violation of these rules can result in being dismissed from practice.
12. Coaches will be wiping down and disinfecting high-touch surfaces like rails and gates.
13. When finished with swimming, leave the pool area promptly. A coach will be on hand to ensure rapid and properly socially distanced departure from the pool.
14. Any questions? Contact Jay Busbee (text or phone: 678-232-5730) or head coaches Jake Hegarty and Emma Markland.
Thanks! I know this sounds like an awful lot of rules, but I’m confident the kids will get the hang of them quickly.
-Jay
