IMPORTANT: Meet #1 info and volunteer assignments
Hey all -- here we are, the first meet! Your coaches and swimmers have been working hard, and we're hoping this will be fun. Weird, but fun. A lot of info here, so please give this a read and volunteer below.
-Patience, please. We *think* we've got a good plan to get everyone in and out of the pool. But this is unlike anything we've had to do before. Please listen to the announcements and the coaches. If you have a problem with anything, we absolutely want to hear about it, but perhaps not in the middle of the meet...? We'll do our best to streamline this, but tomorrow will have its bumps.
-Volunteers still needed. We need more timers, particularly for the younger swimmers. Timing is not a tough job -- you time the swimmer in your lane, and you write down that time. That's it! We won't need bullpen parents (every family is its own mini-bullpen), place judges or concession workers. However, we will need someone to pick up the donuts on Thursday.
Please sign up for a slot here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jJFcHeSakK...
-Wear masks if you're going to be in close proximity to swimmers or other adults. Please wear a mask if you're going to be in one of the high-traffic areas, like timing. And please exercise social distancing when entering and exiting the pool area.
-Meet begins at 5pm. At that point, swimmers will warm up by age group -- approx. 10 minutes each, divided the same way they are for practices. The meet itself will begin at 5:30, and again, we'll go by age groups: 6-under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-up.
-Swimmers will swim by age groups. When your age group is called, enter through the upper gate and exit through the lower gate. You'll hear coaches instructing both swimmers and parents where to go inside the pool area. Swimmers will swim all their events -- with time in between to rest -- and then they'll be done for the night. Unless you have a swimmer in a later age group, please exit the pool area after that.
-Bring your folding chairs, a cooler and some snacks. For waiting parents, we'll set up a holding area in the parking lot, and you can feel free to sit up on the neighborhood side of the clubhouse as well. Stay socially distanced, of course.
-We have no idea how long this will take. None. At all. This could be fast, or it could slog. We just don't know. So we can't tell you to show up at a certain time if you're a parent of an older swimmer. Sorry. Flying pretty blind here for now.
-Watch your email for weather updates. If there are weather issues, we'll let you know here.
I believe that's it, but if you have questions, please let me know. We're going to have music, and we'll do our best to make this as close to the real thing as possible. Thanks for all your help and support, and we'll see you tomorrow at 5!
-Jay
