Swim lessons for week of June 14; stroke clinic available

    Hello Woodfield families --

An update on swim lessons for this week. Coach Logan and coach's coordinator Stacey Irvin have organized the 6 & under swimmers into groups to help keep them progressing forward. The coaches will direct your swimmers to their proper group (set up in one of three lanes) on Monday, and kids will be able (and encouraged) to move up as their skills improve.

Here's a breakdown of their groups, along with some skills they'll be mastering as they prepare to move up to the independent 6 & under swimming:

    Group 1/Jellyfish Group (Beginners)

    Specific Exercises:
Kickboards to get stronger kicks and legs
Learning to jump out from the wall
Head dips at start of practice to get head in water

    Group 2/Starfish Group (Intermediate)

    Specific Exercises:
Fins (if able) to focus on straight leg kicks
Lay on noodle to float and scoop
Kickboards to get stronger kicks and legs

Group 3/Squid Group (Almost ready to swim on their own)

    Specific Exercises:
Fins (if able) to focus on straight leg kicks
Lay on noodle to float and scoop
Move up to independent 6&U practice for second half if able

And here are the exercises by day:

    Monday 6/14:

    • Main: Kick Exercises
    • Secondary: Breathing Exercises

    Tuesday 6/15:

Finally: Coach Jake will be hosting a one-hour stroke clinic on Wednesday at 11am for swimmers, particularly those in the 7-12 age range, who need a little more focused attention on their form. Space is limited to five swimmers; Jake will open another hour if necessary. Cost is $30, reach out to Coach Jake directly at [email protected] to reserve your spot! Coach Jake is a longtime swim veteran and a letterman on Centennial's swim team, so he'll help your kids get that extra advantage for the meets and the summer!

As always, write with any questions, or find me during practice. See you at the pool!
