Woodfield Waves Swim Team: We need you in 2022!
Hello Woodfield Waves families!
Yes, there’s still a chill in the air, but we’re already thinking about the 2022 swim season. (It comes up on you fast.) We are hoping – with fingers and toes crossed – that this will be our first “normal” swim season in three years, and we’re excited to welcome you and your kids back to the pool for a new season.
This is one of those long emails, so throw another log on the fire and scroll away.
After two years of patchwork COVID-enforced strangeness, we’re excited to get the season rolling on something close to a normal level, bringing in more fun for parents and older kids, and stepping up our lessons and opportunities for young swimmers to work their way onto the big team.
To start, Atlanta Swim Association has announced the likely dates for 2022. They are as follows:
April 15: Deadline for registration without late fees
Practice begins: Mid-May TBD
Meets: Thursdays June 2, 9, 16, 23; Tuesday June 28. County meet June 30-July 1 (TBD).
Now, to Woodfield-specific business.
To reintroduce ourselves, we are: Jay Busbee, coordinator; Tara Murphy, assistant coordinator; Stacey Irvin, coaches’ coordinator. We’ll have more information on coaches and operations in the coming weeks, but here’s where we reach out to you directly.
This is an all-volunteer operation for the parents, and we’d love to get your assistance in making 2022 a great season. Many hands, light work, that kind of thing. So here are the positions we’d like to create and/or expand from 2021. No experience necessary, but certainly welcome.
Accountant: We’d like to have someone with actual accounting expertise oversee our budgeting and expenditures.
Sponsorship: We want to bring in sponsors this year, and we’d like someone with expertise in soliciting and organizing sponsors … perhaps someone who’s done something similar with our elementary or middle schools.
Recruiting: There’s always room for us to grow. We’d like someone to head up recruiting efforts – social media postings and reaching out to neighborhoods without teams.
Signage: We want to have many more signs around the pool this year, both for team motivation and for organization (age-specific bullpen signs, for instance). This person would coordinate the production of those signs.
Logo Designer: We’re always on the hunt for new art, so if you have a talent for logo/art design, this is your chance to shine.
Team Spirit Wear: We really want to emphasize team unity this season – we want everyone wearing the same t-shirts and swimsuits at meets. This coordinator will work to get our spirit wear ordered for swimmers and parents alike. (We’ll get you our vendor info.)
Photographer: We’d love someone with photography skills to document our season and our team this year.
Banquet Coordinator: Yes, we’re four months from the season even starting, but we’re already thinking about the year-end party. This person will coordinate the elements of the banquet – food, trophies, gifts, yearly-award towels, et cetera.
We’re happy to help you ease into these roles – we’ve been filling them all for the last couple years, and we think it’d be better to have dedicated people in these roles. Please let us know what you’d be interested in handling.
Have a great rest of the winter – the spring will be here before you know it. Stay safe!
Jay Busbee
Tara Murphy
Stacey Irvin
PS. I (Jay) will be out of town for most of February, so if we don’t get back to you immediately, don’t worry … we still want you on board!
