Meet #1: All you need to know
Hello Woodfield Waves families! It’s meet time, at long last. Our first meet of the season is at home tomorrow night against Dunmoor. Here’s what you need to know heading into Thursday night …
BEFORE THE MEET
Thursday practice: At the end of Thursday practice, your swimmers will get their assignments written on their arms. The code seems odd but it makes sense if you know the secret: E=event number, H=heat number, L=lane. So if your swimmer has 15 - 1 - 4 written on their arm, that means they’re swimming in the first heat (race) of event 15, in lane number 4. Event numbers will be announced throughout the meet, and also will be visible on a whiteboard on the clubhouse. (For this meet, we will only have one heat per event, but against larger teams there may be a second or even third heat.)
Download the app: Get the Swimtopia app and you’ll be able to track everything, including your swimmer’s events and your volunteer assignments. It’s a handy tool to make meet night easier. Plus, there’s a 30-day free trial of the pro version … and swim season lasts less than 30 days from tomorrow, so … you do the math.
Volunteer info: Make sure to check Swimtopia to see when you’re scheduled to work. All families are required to be available for volunteer time. If you can’t meet your shift, please contact Sara Almstedt at [email protected] as soon as possible. Sara will be available at 5pm at the pool to help you with volunteer questions.
If your swimmer will miss the meet … text Coach Logan at 678-815-2057 as soon as possible.
Wear your t-shirt! Our theme this week is Team Spirit, so wear your red t-shirt to show you’re part of the Woodfield crew.
DURING THE MEET
Weather: There is a chance of thunderstorms tomorrow late afternoon. Unless you see an email from us stating otherwise, come to the meet at the appropriate time. Lightning delays the meet by a half-hour for each occurrence.
Heat sheets: We’ll be distributing heat sheets via email as soon as they’re ready – this will have all your swimmer’s events, and you can see how the meet is progressing by consulting the heat sheet.
Arrival time: The meet begins at 5:30. Please have your swimmers at the pool by 4:15 in order to get warmed up and settled in. Families can arrive whenever they wish, but space is limited along the pool. Woodfield sets up on the street side (i.e. opposite side from the tennis courts). When parking, please observe no parking signs so we don’t block the streets.
Bullpen: All swimmers younger than 11 will have specific bullpens (look for signs along the streetside fence). They should remain in these bullpen areas as much as possible so that coaches can find them when their races approach.
Concessions/Food: We will be selling pizzas, grilled meats and other snacks at the pool. Cash only, please.
Please help clean up at the end of the night.
AFTER THE MEET
Fun Friday: Starting this week, we’ll have Fun Fridays to celebrate our meet. Arrive at the pool at 9 a.m. for donuts and games. Noncompetitive 6 & under lesson swimmers, you will be arriving and taking lessons as normal.
Mark your calendars: Next Friday, June 10, we will have team photographs, courtesy of our own Angie Walton. Arrive NEXT FRIDAY at 8:15 for individual photos and 8:45 for the team photo. Wear your team suit! All photos will be free to download. More info coming soon!
I know that’s a lot … trust me, it’s a lot smoother than it sounds. Let us know what questions you have, and we’ll see you at the pool tomorrow!
-Jay
