Off-Season Updates & Parent Board Requests

    Hi Woodfield Waves Families!

Your inboxes have been quiet from us for several months now, but never fear, there has been activity going on behind the scenes getting everything in order. In these cold weeks, summer league feels so far away, but we anticipate having more season information from ASA in mid January! We already got their initial draft of dates. We anticipate the first meet being on May 30th, which if we back into it would have us kicking off the season on May 13th. More details to follow as we confirm everything, but for those looking ahead at summer, at least we can give you that much.

To continue our off-season work, we are looking to add a few more parents to our parent board, but before we ask that, I want to thank and introduce those who have been on our board.

First of all, we all send our thanks and appreciation to Jay Busbee who has served as our Parent Rep. He is still hanging around and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him at the pool some this summer. He and I have been working on updating articles of incorporation and corporate seals and getting everything in order during the off-season. Finishing up processes he began earlier for the 501c7 and incorporation. We are just about there and looking forward to being more officially structured in the future.

Secondly, I want to send thanks to Amanda and Dan Walsh. Dan has served as our computer operator and Amanda as a general parent board member. As some of you may be aware, Dan has had quite the medical battle this fall and has recently been in Mayo clinic where he underwent a Liver transplant on October 30th. He has had a fungal infection and a series of additional complications, he spent time in a rehab facility in Florida and has finally returned home. We wish Dan, Amanda, and their girls all the well-wishes and hope to see him around the pool in the summer if he is feeling up to it. Both are still always welcome on our parent board, but I are putting no pressure there as they navigate this challenge. If you’d like to read more of Dan’s story or support the family, there is a gofundme with a much better description of his challenge. I’ll include the link below.

Melissa Holmon served as our Coaches Coordinator this past season. Her career is requiring more of her time and she is considering a different role within our parent board for the 2024 season. I am excited she will remain involved and understand the need for a change in role.

Stacey Bosch has served as our volunteer coordinator and has agreed to return in this capacity for our 2024 season so everyone will see her name again with all things volunteer this season. I greatly appreciate her returning for this season.

Alice Kudart has agreed to be our treasurer for the 2024 season and is new to the role. We have been updating bank records as part of the process for the 501c7 and will be working on the 2024 budget soon, I hope.

    Thank you to all!

Now, what do we still need and what am I asking? We are looking for parents to fill a few roles (drafts of role descriptions will be attached) including:

    • A new Coaching Coordinator to replace Melissa.
    • Sponsorship chair - help us gain some sponsorships and recognize those sponsors. This will be a newer situation for Woodfield so open to suggestions and creativity.
    • Acquisitions chair - handle the ordering of t shirts, medals, caps, etc.
    • End of Season Banquet Chair- coordinate and chair the end of season banquet.
    • General Parent Board Member - our by-laws allow us to define roles or allow for general board members. We also are still flexible in redefining any of the roles so if you have a skill set you think would be helpful, reach out.

So, as you’re in this chaotic week between the Christmas holiday and the kids returning to school, I ask you to consider what extra time you may have for summer season and what way you may be willing to help out with the Woodfield Waves!

    Thanks in advance,

    Addie George
