    Week 1 Wrap Up

Congratulations on a great first meet of the season! Thank you to all who came out despite the wet evening!

A few notes for this upcoming week:

    1. Declare your swimmers - please get your swimmers declared before Tuesday if possible. Give the coaches any notes as well. In fact, you can declare for the whole season! If you need a reminder on how to declare in Swimtopia, our videos are still on the site.
    2. While you’re declaring your swimmer, snag your volunteer slot. See Melissa Holman’s email for more information about volunteering.
    3. ASA Championship / GA Tech meet - I know we have barely wrapped up meet 1, but believe it or not Atlanta Swim Association is already preparing for our championship meet. We are in the Friday evening session again this year.
      1. Start time for our session is 4pm. It will most likely be streamed again as well.
      2. We will get check-in and warm up times in a few weeks but usually around 2:30 arrival.
      3. Entry fee for this meet is $50 per swimmer for 2 individual events and up to 2 relays (we’d love to field some relays this year)! Swimmers pick their own individual events.
      4. How to register- https://woodfieldwaves.swimtopia.com/shop/180237 - use this link to pay your $50 and be sure to give us your swimmer’s name.
      5. This is always such a fun way to end our season. We’ve been taking growing numbers each year and would love to have a great turnout this year. Talk your friends into coming, grab 4 of you for a relay, and prepare for a fun evening!
    4. Scoring - this is a bit in the weeds but we had a few questions about it so figured I would give an overview for those who want to know.
      1. Only heat 1 swimmers in each event have a chance to earn points for the team.
      2. In individual events, points are awarded for 1st- 3rd place.
      3. No team can take all 3 places IF there is a competitor. For example, Thursday night, in the 13-14 girls, they got all 3 places but if we had a girl swimming in it, then we’d have gotten at least the 1 point.
      4. Relays points are awarded to first and second place.
      5. No team can take both slots IF there is a competitor in the event. This is why you’ll see some swim ups and matches to field as many teams as we can. This gives us at least 3 points just for finishing the relay.
    5. Time Drops - we mentioned in passing that we were adding it this year and we ran it for meet 1, but we had a few questions, so for those who want to understand more (and don’t feel obligated to) here’s more info.
      1. The controller box takes inputs from the starter adapter and the time fobs.
      2. When the ref starts the race, the time automatically starts.
      3. In each lane there are 2 timers (one from each team). They both click a time fob button as soon as the swimmer touches the wall finishing the race.
      4. These times then match up on the tablet to the swimmers and the race and we see if anyone is missing or didn’t swim. It also alerts us to any clicks more than 0.3 seconds apart. If they are, we will get backup times from those lanes and confirm with place judges. For other times, it takes an average of the two times for the final time for the swimmer.
      5. This then transfers into the meet maestro software as well. Thus scoring the meet. All these results are available in SwimTopia.
    6. Afternoon Practices - There is a separate email coming to those currently registered for Afternoon Practices. Please be on the lookout for that a few moments after this one.
