On swim lessons and younger swimmers
Hey families -- last email for the day from me (I hope). I've gotten a number of questions about swim lessons and younger swimmers.
ASA's policy is that coaches have to be hands-off this year, so all swimmers have to be able to swim from one end of the pool to the other without being held by coaches. Doggie-paddle, grabbing the lane ropes or the wall is fine, they just have to be able to get all the way to the other end eventually by themselves.
The only exception is that a parent, sibling or someone inside your quarantine "bubble" is allowed to be in the pool with the swimmer. Otherwise, unfortunately we have to do all of our coaching from the wall or an adjacent lane.
I hate this rule. Hate it. Both of my kids learned to swim by being held by patient coaches, and watching the little ones get more confident as the season goes on is one of the best parts of the summer. But for this year, this is the way it has to be.
If this presents an issue for your family, please let me know. Thanks, and stay safe--
Jay
