Day One in the books!
Hey parents! We've finished up a successful first day of practice and I want to thank everyone for pitching in and working with this new framework. Just a few quick notes as we try to get the bumps in the road smoothed:
-6 & unders: This is our trickiest age group, because we simply can't get in the water with the little ones and help them swim, like we usually do. We're going to try to assign coaches to the littlest swimmers, but because of our late start, our coaches are also involved in other athletic events and jobs, so I can't promise individual attention for every beginning swimmer every day. We'll do the best we can, but there's only so much we can cover given our limitations. If this doesn't work for you, we can of course refund your money, no problem.
-6 & under time slot: This is on me. In the past, 6 & unders have gone only 30 minutes; I grouped them in with the 7-8s and scheduled them all for 45 minutes. Parents of 6 & unders -- we don't have many -- are welcome to stay in the pool area and wait with their little ones for that last 15 minutes if they have older kids in the next age group up.
-Swimmers listening to coaches: Parents, PLEASE emphasize to your kids that we are trying to maintain social distancing, and that coaches need the kids to LISTEN when they're told to split apart or stay in their own lane. We don't want to pull anyone out of the pool or send them home for the day, but the swimmers do need to listen to what their coaches say, for everyone's safety.
-Volunteers: We're going to send out a sheet soon with meet volunteers, so please step up -- at least one person from each family is expected to volunteer every meet. More details forthcoming, just getting you in the right headspace for that.
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Let me know, here or at [email protected]. Thanks, and thanks for a great first day!
